The time has finally come for us to release our much anticipated GT3 wing kit. This is a day to remember here at SAVVY as we have been working very hard for the last few years to design and manufacture a product we have truly poured our heart and soul into. Let’s take a dive into how we designed our wing kit to stand out from the crowd.

Design started in 2016 where we began CFD testing different ideas for an after market wing solution to help us compete in the 2017 season of Global Time Attack. After much trial and error, our element finally became a working product just in time for the 2017 Super Lap Battle At Buttonwillow Raceway. From initial testing we could see an overall stability improvement in our GT3 which was only outfitted with 100 tread wear tires, springs, alignment, exhaust and our wing kit. Our driver Adam Knapik was able to set a respectable 1:51.4 which turned out to be good enough for a 2nd place finish in the Limited RWD category.

After this initial success we noticed that the lap times from initial testing improved by a mere 1.5 seconds. This was obviously not good enough and that’s where our engineering came into play. Learning more as we went along, we began playing with airfoil design as well as learning more about the disruptive air in and around the car. The way the GT3 flows through the air is a spectacular sight to see. We can say we took advantage of this as well as re-designed the air foil to create more down force with a less angle of attack which in turn created less drag. When the next prototype was ready, we were ready to take on the 2018 Time Attack Season with a new livery.

We traveled to many cities throughout the year and improved not just the design of the wing but the overall aero package of the car. With our most aggressive angle, we designated over 500lbs of downforce at 100mph, this is where the need for other front aero aids were needed. Testing to the extremes gave us great driver feedback and data to the action and reaction. From all this data throughout the 2018 season, we gained the knowledge to have a final design and kit that will be ready for the public.

The approach to our GT3 Wing Kit is “Refined Aggressiveness”. We want to be able to provide our customers with an aggressive wing kit that will not only give the driver more confidence through the corners but looks good doing it.

All of our carbon wings are hand made using a twill weave intermediate modulus carbon/epoxy pre-preg for the entire element. With this, we achieve maximum strength, durability and lightness. Once cured, the wing element is treated with 5 coats of varying UV blocking Polyester and Urethane clear coats which are then cured, wet sanded and polished to achieve a pristine finish. All of our carbon fiber products are made right here in the good ol U.S. of A. Making our carbon products domestically, drastically cuts down on lead times and greatly improve quality control as actions can be taken much sooner than if it were to be shipped form overseas.
